Tarot at a glance

Of course, Tarot also works online. Tarot is a set of 78 playing cards, often referred to as a card oracle. The 78 cards in the Tarot set differ greatly from one another in terms of their meaning, and their meaning also depends on whether these divination cards are assigned to the Major or Minor Arcana. The Major Arcana numbers 22 trumps from 0 to 21, while the Minor Arcana has 56 suit cards, ten of which are numbers, and also four face cards, each in four different suits. The word "Arkana" is derived from the Latin arcanum, which means "mystery".

Tarot cards have a long tradition, long before Tarot was offered online, and according to legend may have originated in ancient Egypt. This legend says that, faced with the impending destruction of the empire, he was looking for a way to preserve knowledge that was thousands of years old. After surviving for a long time, it was finally decided to immortalize the ancient knowledge in the form of drawings on playing cards, as it was assumed that games and vices would survive against all odds. Playing cards have been known in Europe at least since the end of the 14th century. The cards of today's Tarot probably developed from 52 playing cards that spread from the Islamic world to Europe and which correspond to today's minor arcana.

MARSEILLE-TAROT

The so-called Marseille Tarot is one of the oldest and most popular tarot decks ever. Another name that is also often used in Germany for the Tarot deck is “Tarot de Marseille”. The motifs of this special tarot deck were created in France in the 16th century and is named after the port city of Marseille in the south of France, as a large part of the card production took place here. The Marseille Tarot in the broader sense includes a number of closely related decks that are considered to be groundbreaking for the design of other, subsequent tarots.

WAITE TAROT

The Waite Tarot is also a popular and widely used tarot deck. This special tarot goes back to the English occultist Arthur Edward Waite and was put into practice by the artist Pamela Colman Smith. Since the tarot deck was published by Rider & Son in 1910, the tarot also became known as the Rider-Waite Tarot. Both Arthur Edward Waite and the artist Pamela Colman Smith were considered to belong to the magical society of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, which is also reflected in the design of the tarot deck. This reflects the esoteric teachings of society.

CROWLEY THOTH TAROT

Many people will also be familiar with the Crowley Thoth Tarot. It was devised by the English occultist and writer Aleister Crowley. The artist Frieda Harris then put his ideas into practice. Crowley also belonged to the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and devoted himself and passionately to the occult and the important questions of life throughout his life. The first illustration of Crowley's Tarot cards appeared in his 1944 book "Book of Thoth". In this book, not only were all the maps printed in black and white, there were also six colored illustrations.

As already mentioned, a complete tarot deck consists of 78 cards. The cards each have their own meaning, which arises from the specific question and the individual interpretation of the figures, colors, objects and symbols placed. There are 22 main cards and 56 cards, each assigned to the four rows of Wands, Swords, Cups and Coins. As already mentioned, the tarot cards must always be interpreted in the context of the question, but some basic interpretations can be mentioned. For example, the high priestess represents the soul and intuition or the ruler represents the masculine, a father figure as well as strength and vitality.

THE MAJOR ARCANA IN THE ONLINE TAROT

The 22 main cards in the Online Tarot are also known as trump cards or the Major Arcana. The 22 cards and their symbols differ greatly from the other playing cards. When interpreting the Major Arcana, the focus is always on the specific question and the current life situation of the questioner. This can lead to the situation where the same cards have different meanings for two different people. The 22 main cards of the Major Arcana include, for example, the Magician, the High Priestess, the Empress, the Lovers, Death, the Moon and the Hermit. Death does not represent the end of life, but can indicate the beginning of a new phase of life or a new beginning.

THE MINOR ARCANA IN THE ONLINE TAROT

The Minor Arcana consists of a total of 56 cards and is divided into four times fourteen of these cards in four different colors or rows. These four rows are staffs, cups, swords and coins.

Each of these four rows is assigned a specific element.

The bars symbolize the element fire, which stands for energy, success, commitment and creativity.

The cups are associated with the element of water and indicate the unconscious, feelings and different moods.

The swords stand for the element of air and are associated with freedom, the spiritual, knowledge or learning.

The coins embody the element earth and symbolize nature, the body, work and material things.
